Introduction: This study aimed to develop a child-centered mindfulness-based compassion therapy package and examine its effectiveness on emotion regulation and self-efficacy in children
Methods: The research employed an applied sequential exploratory mixed-methods design (qualitative–quantitative). In the qualitative phase, the intervention package was developed and its content validity was confirmed by experts in psychology and education. In the quantitative phase, a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was applied. The statistical population consisted of elementary school boys aged 8–10 years in Tehran during the 2024–2025 academic year. Using multistage random sampling, 30 participants were selected and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The research instruments included the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) and the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Children (SEQ-C). The experimental group received the intervention in 8 sessions of 60 minutes each. Data were analyzed using SPSS-26 and multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Science and Culture (IR.ACECR.USC.REC.1403.067).
Results: Findings indicated that the intervention significantly improved children’s self-efficacy and emotion regulation. Eta squared values showed that 24% of the variance in self-efficacy and 56% of the variance in emotion regulation were explained by the intervention.
Conclusion: The child-centered mindfulness-based compassion therapy program effectively enhanced self-efficacy and cognitive emotion regulation in children. This package can be recommended for use in educational and clinical settings.
