Also, long duration of treatment, is associated with increased caries risk, root resorption and gingival recession. Reducing the duration of treatment reduces the complications of orthodontic treatments and at the same time increases patient satisfaction. There has been a great deal of research in the area of accelerated tooth movement to reduce treatment time. There are various methods to accelerate tooth movement, including chemicals (prostaglandin E2, vitamin D3 and parathyroid hormone), ultrasonic application and electrical stimulants. Today, a new invasive, non-invasive technique is used to accelerate tooth movement in orthodontics, including corticotomy surgery and laser therapy.
